The Problem with Work

Work takes up a huge portion of our life, some of us don’t know anymore where it begins or ends, and this seems the inevitable order of things. It has become the space in which we look for identity and social affirmation. Work is what makes us good productive members of society and fulfils most of our moral obligations towards our fellow citizens… right?

Is it, though? The one and (fortunately) only Long and Sour productions - AKA my dear friend and organizational psychologist Nancy Cater and myself - proudly brings you our view on the matter. In this podcast -  “The Problem with Work” - we draw on the eponymous book by political philosopher Kathi Weeks to question work and its cultural dominance from the vantage points of the office cubicle and the artist’s studio, with a healthy sprinkling of bitterness throughout.
Listen ‘till the end for the art of the episode, when I present a work of art and artist that came to mind while thinking through work and its issues.

Not for the faint of heart: you may hear scary words like radical feminism, socialism, basic income, shorter work week, even Marxism! And, well, who has ever talked about work without a light amount of swearing?
